My Grandfather

by Beth
(North Carolina)

Stud Spider #66

Stud Spider #66

I am thirty now, and I collected Breyers as a child. I have over 50 models with their original boxes, but not sure that any of them would be considered "vintage" if that is considered over 25 years old. They are all from the 80s and early 90s. One of my favorites that I have is #66 Stud Spider, which was produced 1978-89 (pictured). My grandfather got me started collecting and I have definitely admired some wonderful vintage pieces in his collection. He probably had over 300 in his collection at one time. My memories really center around time spent with him asking him about each of his models and picking out my favorites. My own collection was never really "played with" as I wanted them to stay perfect, and I would just stand back and gaze at them. As a kid, I loved anything that had to do with horses and I had fun learning about all of the different breeds as I collected various models. I have changed focus slightly over the years as I now ride and adore my mules. I have decided to sell my entire collection. In the process of researching avenues to do this, I ran across this site and it is really neat. I even got to looking around and am about to trade one of my models for Dolly the balking mule! Haha Happy Trails!
